#684
cant install template/theme 15 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Joomla Multi Sites version: 1.1.19
Patches definition version: 1.1.8
Symbolic Link: Allowed
J! :1.5.10

After testing for a while with different settings I manage to make JMS work partially. I needed to make specific templates work in the slave site but I cant install themes/templates. So that is my 1st issue

Error Message:
"Unable to find install package"

joomla is copying the theme installer in the master/tmp path

I have to copy the theme folders/template to the slave site template folder to make it work.

2nd issue is when I save the global setting on the slave site it also updates the masters global settings.

Hope you can help us on this.

The message "Unable to find install package" is probably a bug in the extension that you want to install.
You can verify it when you unzip this extension into a temporary directory and you try to install it from a directory.
You should have a similar message also when trying to install it on the master website.

I have already seen that some extension that are installed from a package on the master website may work. But they does not work when they are installed from a directory.
When installed on a slave site, it seems that Joomla works like when installed from a directory and this is the reason why you have this error message.

In general, you have to unzip the extension in a temporary directory.
Try to locate the missing install file that is will be probably reported during the installation and copy it into the root of the extension.
After that you can zip again the extension and you should have a valid extension file that will work both from package and directory.
This is a bug that must be reported to the extension producer

Concerning the Global Setting that seems to be saved into the master website.
I don't know how you arrive to produce such thing.
A possible reason could be a patch not installed.
Check also the path used for the slave site.
Normally the configuration.php file must be saved in the deployed directory or in the /multisites/xxx directory.

The extension that Im trying to install is a template. I have included a link where you can download the rockettheme template installer so that you can test. I was able to install it on the master site and it works. And as I said before it works if i manually copy the directory of the template to the template directory of joomla.

I have been able to install the rt_mynxx with success on both the master and a slave site having a specify themes directory.

Here it is the procedure that I have followed.
I have created a slave with:
- ID = slave3
- domain = http://{site_url}/multisites/slave3
- selected the master DB
- new prefix = slave3_
- deploy dir = {site_dir}
- Themes = {site_dir}/templates

Once you have the slave, you can check that the rt_mynxx is not present (Just in case where you have already installed it on your master).
With FTP or other tool, you can check that the /multisites/slave3/templates directory does not contain the rt_mynxx. Rk: templates must be a directory and not a symbolic link.
If there is as a rt_mynxx link present, you can go in the slave3 administration and un-install the rt_mynxx template.
Once you are sure it is not present, you can install the rt_mynxx that will become specific for this slave site.

This procedure apply the remark present in the user manual page 28 concerning the specific themes directory.
