I upgraded from 1.1.16 and now when I try to install components on my slave sites I either get an error or it is successful but then they don't show up on the menu. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling multi sites, that didn't help...I recently posted the error details for extplorer in the components thread, but now I realize it is any component. Maybe other extensions too haven't tried them.

I don't understand what you try describing to me.
Can you give a detailled description and scenario to reproduce it.
Does all the patches are correctly installed ?
Which extension are you trying to install and that have errors.
Can you give screenshot and highlight the point that have a problem.

The eXtplorer seems to be an error in this extension itself that is incorrectly packaged.
