SERVER_CONNECT_FAILED when i check for updates 15 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

i get a red message (see attached pic) with an error when i try to check for updates in the admin of JMS:

Code:

SERVER_CONNECT_FAILED, failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found

Do you have any idea about it. Thanks.

Probably your PHP server is not configured to use the CURL module.
In this case, it JMS try to use native fopen using the URL to our server but probably your PHP does not accept that perform such call.
See php.ini parameter that should be set to allow_url_fopen On to accept such URL in fopen.

If you can enable the CURL php module, this solution that will give the most flexible possibilities.

If this does not work due to the security of your hosting provider, the only alternative will be to get the lastest version of JMS to update the patch definition.
You can do such "get latest version" request yourself when you into personnal account menu.
There you can select the product for which you want to receive new download ID.

Perfect,
Have you checked the parameters ?
You can see the parameters when you go to Joomla Help / System information

Hi,

a liitle time passed by - but now I know a little more:

I checked the parameters:
cUrl is enabled and also fopen

first i talked to my managed server hoster and second i tried a installation on a normal webspace where I have php.ini access.

On the webspace everything works fine - on the server not.
Then I compared the php settings on both installations and these are the diffrenzes:

On the webspace I have php5 running as apache module on the server it is only as cgi or fast cgi possible and on the webspace i have a module called "Sockets Support" on the server not.

So I asked my server hoster to get php5 as module but thy denied - only php4 would be able to run as module. So I tried it with php4 as module and it works now also on the server. But I need on the server php5 for some other component.

Any Ideas left?

NO new ideas.
As I told you before, you can always request a new download ID from our website and receive a full JMS package that contain the latest patches definition that you can download from the "Check for update".

Perhaps you could tell to your hosting provider that PHP 4 is no more supported by PHP for august 2008 and therefore, could lead to security issue.
It is recommended to migrate on PHP 5 to have more support and continue to benefit of security fixes.
