I know that it is perhaps a little contradictionary to main idea behind Multisites - however once in a while you may need to "hack" a component, module or plugin - but when you then install another slave site and need to use this component, module or plugin (possibly without the "hack") - your "hack" on the original slave is overwritten.

Would it be an idea to provide the slaves with the opportunity to install extensions "exclusively" for this slave?

Just a suggestion - don't know if it is possible.

This is not easy to implement but could be possible.
The disadvantage will concern the maintenance because if you make an extension specific for a specific slave site, this also mean that you will have to update this copy of the code.

The idea could be similar to the actual implementation of the themes that can be either shared between the websites or become specific for some slave sites.
