I am using Multisites 1.3.27

I updated Joomla from 2.5.14 to 2.5.17 and want to reinstall the patches.

Multisites aborts with the following messages:
JFolder::create: Infinite loop detected
Unable to create destination
Error during installation of the file "installation/index.php"

I keep copying the installation/ back from the official joomla zip-file.

How can I trace what is causing the issue?

The infinite loop in the creation of a folder might be due to a permission error and the fact that path containing several directories to create always fails.

So verify that the permission of the files and folders that must be patched (installed) are correct

Try also enable the Joomla debug to get more information on the path that cause the infinite loop.
Perhaps that Joomla will give you the information on the path that can not be created a and that cause the "inifinite loop" error.
Otherwise, you will have to modify the Joomla code to capture the path that cause the error.
