I'm working with your component on a huge amount of website. When I was testing everything, I was dealing with "real" subdomains. By typing slave.mydomain.com/images/myimage.jpg i was able to access the directory located in the root directory of the website (above httpdocs or www or whatever : the main www directory).

Since I began to use it with about 600 websites, I decided to create a wildcard subdomain. Everything's working fine, except that slave.mydomain.com/images/myimage.jpg is now pointing to the main directory, not the specific one for the subdomain.

My server's control panel is Plesk.

Did i miss something ?

It is effectivelly possible to use wildcard subdomain.
We already did that several time and sometime for a very large number of website > 10,000 websites.

There are several possible setting to also take in account the performance.
Over than 1000 websites, it is recommended to:
- Setup the JMS template rule with "ignore master index" = yes
- create a specific "multisites_userexit.php" that compute the master index dynamically.
- Setup the JMS Settings with "enable the letter tree"

If you want to have specific deployed directory for each subdomain,
- You need to create a specific vhost in Plesk - See the plesk help.

If all your slave site point to the same directory in your plesk configuration,
- Setup the JMS template rule with folder tab => action = ignore for all
