TOPIC: Server paths for cPanel

Server paths for cPanel 10 Years ago Karma: 0
Hi Edwin,

I'm setting up a new Multi Sites installation and could use some help with configuring the server.

I have a VPS running WHM/cPanel.

I want to have separate files and separate database for each of my slave sites.

My current server path is:

/home/my_account/public_html

I'm a bit confused by your instructions. What would be the proper architecture to for the separate requirement?

/home/my_account/public_html/parent_site
/home/my_account/domains/slave1
/home/my_account/domains/slave2
/home/my_account/domains/slave3

Is that correct? Please advise.

Hi Edwin,

I hope you can get back to me asap.

I tried adding an AddOn domain in cPanel, and it created a directory for my slave1.com site within the WHM account's public_html directory.

Here are the paths I think I'm working with:

/home/my_account/public_html/
/home/my_account/public_html/slave1.com
/home/my_account/public_html/slave2.com

The master site exists within the public_hmtl directory.

Is this the correct path structure? (Or should the master site be in a subdirectory within the public_html directory and parallel to the slave addon directories?)

I haven't gotten to actually configuring JMS Multi Sites yet. But my host (Media Temple) says that by using AddOn domains within the public_html directory, it allows those slave directories to access the files within my_account and public_html, which makes sense to me.

The examples in your documentation for JMS 1.3 are confusing because you put additional public_html directories within the slave site directories.

Please confirm the above paths.

Thanks,
Bruce

Okay, so I'm going with the AddOn domains directories in the public_html directory as described in my previous post.

Since I'm importing existing sites, do I copy the existing site files into my new AddOn directory? Seems to make sense since the domain www.slave1.com resolves to the slave1.com AddOn directory.

I'll have to read the manual to see where to put the configuration.php file and how to connect the database.

I've added the slave1.com site to Multi Sites and it now displays when I go to slave1.com in a browser. So my paths must be correct. I also see that it has copied the core Joomla files from my master site into the slave1.com directory, with aliases for certain directories.

Now I'll have to check the manual for directions on where to put the existing site's files.

I think I've worked out this particular thread to success. Maybe I could help you edit your documentation? Well, another project, perhaps.
