I've been looking for a multi-site solution but I have two questions.

First, does this component allow you to create sites with individual domain names? We need to use a different domain name for each site, sub-domains are unacceptable.

Second, if that is possible, is this an SEO friendly solution? We will have hundreds of sites that need to be 100% SEO friendly that won't be penalized by Google, Bing, etc..

Zach, yes you can have different domains.
This website (jms2win.com) is a slave site with a specific domain name.

Yes you can use SEF for each websites with different domains.

When you create website with different domains or subdomains, we recommend that you follow our suggested architecture described in the tutorial video 0.b
The key element is to avoid deploying the website into a subdirectory of another domain or subdomain that would may result with duplicate content.
If you apply our recommendation, you will avoid such kind of issue resulting of a wrong configuration.

So yes you can do all that.
