If you want don't have the latest version of JMS, you can download it for free as explained in the FAQ;

If you create the slave site witha special copy of the "/templates" directory and that you are working on joomla 1.7 or 2.5, you have to use the "discover" function present in joomla to make the slave site template be added.

If the joomla discover function does not work, at our knowledge, this is due to wrong definition of the template XML manifest file.

Send us a copy of the "artister" template in the attachement of an email.
So that we could try to reproduce the scenario that you are describing with this template.

After installing the latest JSM Multisite version I was able to Discover the templates. However I am still having the issue where installing a new module that might require being installed at both the master and slave site would create.

Most of the modules can be install with the JMS tools event when they are not defined because most of the modules does not have their own MySQL tables but use the MySQL tables from the components.

So I suggest that you have a look to install (or define) the modules from the JMS Tool menu.
If it does not work, you can also use the Joomla 1.7 (or 2.5) discover method to try discover the module to re-install in the slave site.

Also verify that the module are correctly installed in the master website.

I think that is a general problem with framework extensions when sharing with JMS.

I use joomla 2.5 and jms 1.2

In order to share templates between master and slaves I have installed JV Framework (installation zip joint) and Rocket Theme Gantry.
The templates appear correctly in the master site but are absent in the slave sites template manager.

In the master site JMS/tools, JV template and Gantry appears as an extension. I have tried both solutions (installed and uninstalled).

When I want to install JV F or Gantry tthis failed with a message : "impossible to find the extension in master site..."

This is a real bug for template sharing, and the solution is probably in the JMS extension, but I am note an expert in PHP programming.

GOOD NEWS templates appears in my templates manager !!!
Previously I had not discovered the "discovery mode" in Extension manager.
I have found the procedure in another post .
I have installed the new "gantry templates" with the discovery mode. And it works
