TOPIC: Install lag

Install lag 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm very new to this. I just downloaded the component and when I went to install it just sits there and lags. Nothing happens at all. I've let it sit for 20 minutes already.

Help! What's going on?

Thank you.

The extension is more than 1.8MB.
Perhaps your server has a timeout during the upload of the package.

An alternate solution is to unzip the extension in a temporary directory on your server and retry installing it from this directory.
So in joomla installation, choose in this case install from the directory where you have unzipped it.

Ok, I uploaded and unzipped it to www.mydomain.com/temp/

What do I enter in the "Install from directory" box?

I've tried all of the following:

temp/
/temp/
../temp/
../temp
www.mydomain.com/temp
www.mydomain.com/temp/
www.mydomain.com/temp
www.mydomain.com/temp/

All I get is the message: Please enter a package directory

Thank you for your help!

What is the solution, then, please? I'm having the same problem, and I'd like to know how you solved it.

You have to unzip the ZIP into a directory of your server and provide to Joomla installation directory the full path where you have unzipped the distribution.

ie: suppose that you want to install com_multisites_v1.2.22.zip
Suppose that your website is located on your disk in
/var/www/myaccount/master/public_html

There, you probably have a "tmp" directory.
You can see the path in the "Global Configuration"
Assume that the "tmp" directory is located
/var/www/myaccount/master/public_html/tmp

There create a directory like 'jms'
/var/www/myaccount/master/public_html/tmp/jms

Unzio all the content in this directory
/var/www/myaccount/master/public_html/tmp/jms

Now you can intall from this directory
/var/www/myaccount/master/public_html/tmp/jms
