At my knowledge Cometchat is something that is outside of Joomla and that a bridge is created to work with cometchat.

So, I don't know the result of the case where clone or copy the "comet chat".

I'm afraid I gave up to be honest..
I wasn't getting much help from here and felt that comet chat was more important than the multisites plugin (though I can imagine it is useful for many, it turned out to be a waste of money for me).
I gave up because on installing the patches, the comet chat just got completely knocked out on any of the sites and disappeared. As soon as I un-installed the patches, it came back - so there is obviously some sort of conflict between both components (though the creator will refuse to either look at the issue or even admit there is one).
Hope you have more success, that's 50 Euro that I've lost out on, which I mentioned on purchasing is for a non profit community website, where I have to pay out of my own pocket, so I'm sure you can understand my frustration
