Hi Edwin,

I am trying to build a site that shares the Master site users only.

I cannot seem to do this without first creating a template (since there is no share options anywhere else- is this true?)

1) Create template site id: template_one

In [common] I choose <master site> for [template site]

I fill in test_ for [New DB Prefix]

*I leave everything else blank

In sharing I choose: Share the Joomla Users

2) Manage Sites
create site

List of domain sites : mysubdomain.mydomain.com

Choose from dropdown Templates: template_1 => test_

New DB table Prefix: test_

*I leave everything else blank

When I go to mysubdomain.mydomain.com I get The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

** If I do not use a template. I cannot share users, but everything else works fine.

Yes the sharing require to setup a JMS template rule and to specify which website to replicate (here the master).

1) OK

2) OK

Verify your cPanel or other admin tool that you subdomain is correctly assigned to the master website directory.
Use for example the "hello world" to verify that the subdomain is correctly defined in your apache or IIS.
See tutorial video 7 for the hello world.

Once you validated the HTTP Server configuration, verify the url that you specified.
Some hosting provider add a "WWW" in front of the subdomain.

To have the correct website display, it is required to have an exact matching between the URL and the domain that you have entered in the slave site. This is case sensitive.

Do not use HTTP Server redirection that modify the URL value.

Hi Edwin,
thanks for the help so far.

hello.php shows fine in slave link as expected.

I imagine everything standard is as should be because I can create slave site if I don't use a template.

So if the "hello world" is working, we can exclude the Http Server configuration.

So verify that you spelled the domain name correctly.
Did you get a success when you have saved the slave site definition.
You need to have a success "blue message" to have the slave site correctly defined.

I'm setting up a fresh install and some aliases to test.

I've been using multisite since version 1 (and am familiar with some of the normal pitfalls) so I'm guessing it might be router code from the previous developer that might be affecting this site I'm working on.

I'll keep you posted.

Errors were likely due to a modified router file that did not like jms, so not a jms issue
