TOPIC: Multiple Instances of K2 Component
#8393
Multiple Instances of K2 Component 13 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 1
Hi Edwin,

Please help asap. I have

Master_Site
|
|Site A
|
|Site B (Has 2 instances of K2)
|
|Site B1, b2, etc.... (These have multiple instances, one site has 4 instances)
-
|
|Site C

Here is a screenshot:
<a href='www.UploadScreenshot.com/image/532110/1474813' target='_blank'><img src='img1.UploadScreenshot.com/images/thumb/11/30513434964.jpg' alt='Click here to view full size' /></a>

In the master site I updated the component by uploading it and upgrading the component. There is only one instance that is correct in the master site.

Now I went to tools and selected the master site then clicked on the component and see COM_K2. I clicked propogate to children and clicked 'overwrite' checkbox. I have a lot of sites and it looks to freeze for awhile, then it unfroze and then showed me that it had green checks on about the first 10 sites and failed on the next and quit. I tried it again, and it did all of them. However, now in the backend of all the subsites of SITE B, there are multiple instances of the K2 Component.

Can you please help? Also, when I did this, it overwrote my K2 items in the SITE B which is the master for sub-sites SITE B#, etc.

The fact that you have several instance of the "K2" in the menu let suppose that several entries were written in the website.
If you can not uninstall the extension and re-install it because you will lose the data, the only solution is to cleanup the "mnu" records manually in the DB.

Concerning the overwrite, you say in your post that you have selected the "overwrite". So this is normal that the content is replaced.

Ah! I thought overwrite would overwrite just files so the component would update?

So to update a component, I only have to propogate to children? Not overwrite?

Could you tell me where I would find the "mnu" records in the db?

In PHPMyAdmin, you will find a table #__menu where #__ is the table prefix.
Inside this table, you will find all the menu entries.

Make a backup first and once you have a backup, try removing all the menu entries corresponding to K2 except the one that is active and that correspond to the extension ID that is installed.
