TOPIC: Shared sub-folders in images
#7564
Shared sub-folders in images 13 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi

I am creating sites where I want each sub-site to have its own images folder, but some of the sub-folders should be shared

I can manually achieve this by creating symbolic links, but I cannot get these links to copy over when I generate a new site (meaning that I have to create the links every time I create a site)

Is there any way of automating the creation of sub-folders that are symbolic links

example

images
---stories
------Shared_Folder_1 (symbolic link)
------Shared_Folder_2 (symbolic link)
------Local_Folder_1
------Local_Folder_2

Thanks

Jon

If you want to have both shared and specific images, you can effectivelly create sub directories and use the website creation from the front-end where you can execute addional script or PHP code to perform specific tasks. This will require to enable the "billable website" functionality and buy website quota in the "settings" menu.

Another alternative is to create 2 root images directory
/images that would be shared between all the websites
/images_specific that would be speciific in each directory.

So that you can defined a Symbolic Link on the directory that contain the shared images
and perform a copy for the directory that contain specific images.

This second solution avoid to have using the front-end website creation and implement a specific PHP code to perform additional tasks.
