OK, lets say I have 3 domains I want to share the user database with:

masterdomain.com
share_a.com
share_b.com

I have my hosting at 1 and 1. I go into Plesk (9.2.2) to set up the domains. When I do that, by default, the DocumentRoot directory for each ends up being:

/var/www/vhosts/masterdomain.com/httpdocs
/var/www/vhosts/share_a.com/httpdocs
/var/www/vhosts/share_b.com/httpdocs

But when I follow the instructions in the tutorial on sharing user names and extentions, the paths it sets the share_a and share_b domains at are:

/var/www/vhosts/masterdomain.com/httpdocs/multisites/share_a
/var/www/vhosts/masterdomain.com/httpdocs/multisites/share_b

Obviously this does not work. So is their a way to either:

A. In Plesk, point a domain to a different DocumentRoot Path?
or
B. Have JMS install the share/slave to a different path?

OK, I think I got it. I went into my httpd.include file in the /conf directory of the domain I wanted to redirect and manually change the DocumentRoot path.

You can not modify directly the httpd.include as it is generate automatically by plesk.

You have to create a vhost.conf as explained in Plesk - help - appendix A
They explain how to change the default "plesk" configuration and how to create a vhost.conf file.

Yep, I did that and still having problems.. it finds the path now, but wants to download it as a .part file....

Im ready to switch providers to get this accomplished because 1 and 1 virtual hosting is frusting the #@$@#$ out of me right now.

Where is the best hosting people have used to do this successfully?

www.godaddy.com with shared hosting (linux) with delux plan or unlimited plan I working at 100% (no permission issue and no DB privilige issue).

You can also use cPanel with www.hostgator.com
cPanel has a limitation that require the support to grant the MySQL user.
We have a "baby" account at hostgator and they provide the support to grant the MySQL user.

You can also use cPanel with dedicated server (WHM) that have PHPMyAdmin with root login.
In this case, you can grant the MySQL User yourself.

There are other hosting companies that are ok.
You also have www.ovh.com in france that propose shared hosting with 100% ok.

Your problem is more related to Plesk that is not easy to setup.
Also avoid solution with "Direct Admin" that is also difficult to setup.

I am assuming 1und1 is in Germany. I switched from them to Strato. I just tried JMS on Strato and it works very easily. The biggest advantage is that you can point your subdomains to any folder.
I have a package that gives me 8 domain names and almost unlimited subdomains.
A client of mine has Plesk too, and it is a pain esp. compared to Strato.

Just my 2 cents
