TOPIC: Master in subdirectory
#4643
Re: Master in subdirectory 14 Years ago Karma: 54
NO it is NOT in the root directory but in a directory beside.

The idea in the video is to put the master website into a specific directory.
This can be acheived by different maner:
- Use a specific "confidential" primary domain that is just used by the master website
- Create a subdomain that is located beside a primary domain of a HTTP Server (ie cPanel)
- Create an "Add On Domain" in a specific directory that is disconnected of a primary domain.

Becarefull that some HTTP Server like Plesk or Direct Admin might be more difficult to configure as they add security when using domain and subdomain that are located into specific directories.

I think there is a language problem. What do you mean by "directory beside"?

my main site is www.zaeba-wl.de/ = domainpath/httpdocs/*.* This is my joomla installation with the multisites component
Where should the master go if not here?

I have created a slave www.zaeba-wl.de/navi which is a fresh install. It will have links to my main slave site www.zaeba-wl.de/navi/praxis
/praxis will have children

Beside directory mean not a subdirectory
- /directory1/httpdocs
- /directory2/httpdocs

and not a subdirectory
- /httpdocs/directory1/directory2

Therefore if you want to put the master in
/home/slave_directory/master_directory
then can NOT build a slave directory is in the upper directory.

You can not define in JMS a slave site that would have a deployed directory in its parent directory
/home/slave_directory

This is very dangerous, because if you delete the slave site, you will delete the directory
/home/slave_directory that include the master and all the slave sites definition.

Thanks. I FINALLY got a zmaster.zaeba-wl.de with a slave1 at www.zaeba-wl. This will be my front end with links to my slave sites. My version of Plesk shows that i can share between main httpdocs and subdomains/zmaster/httpdocs.

Now I want to create a slave2 which will have children at subdomains/praxis/httpdocs.

Thank you.

Greetings,

My slave2 site should have most extensions from master. Should I also install Multisites to slave2 from master or is this a big mistake?

Thanks

JMS Multistes should never be installed in a slave site.
You just have to install JMS Multisites on the master (never in a slave).
If you try to manage slave site from a slave site, there are some functionality disabled to avoid creating inconsistency. For example, you can not install the patches from a slave site.
