TOPIC: Getting 404 Not Found error
#4225
Getting 404 Not Found error 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 1
I'm so blessed I came up with this message

"* The site 'slave.com' is deployed.
* - You can now map your new domain (www.woundedsouls.com/slave.com) to the directory
* '/home/woundeds/public_html'.
* - When the DNS will be updated with your new domain (perhaps you have to wait 24 hours),
* you will can go to your new domain and Joomla will request you a new installation (as usual).
* - Please use a new db prefix for each site and NEVER use 'jos' as prefix or if you want to keep 'jos' as prefix, create as many databases than you have sites."

But suddenly when I click the domain name "www.site.com/slave.com", this error came up

"Not Found

The requested URL /slave.com was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

but when I try to rename the domain name to this "www.site.com/multisites/slave.com" the site is work fine.
and also the
Unix Symbolic Links: Forbidden
I try to fix the error, I follow the video TOT.. please help me..
how I can make the site to this
www.site.com/slave.com w/o getting error..

Did you defined the domain with the "www" and without the "www" ?
Perhaps you also have to check if you HTTP Server accept to follow "Symbolic LInks".
This is generally an option present in the .htaccess that is generally also set on the server

Options +FollowSymLinks

You can try to test the Symbolic Links with the tutorial video 7 to check if this is accepted by your server.

You also have to check if you have deployed the slave site into the correct directory path as you seems mentioned that when you test it with the "multisites/slave.com" directory it is working.
This probably mean that you have deployed the slave site into the {site_dir} but have specified a domain name that is not {site_url}/multiisites/{site_id}.

The domain name and deploy directory must be consistend and the HTTP + the location on the disk must be correctly setup.

I've got this problem.
Server is LAMP stack

We have 1 master without sample data in
/var/www/master/htdocs/

Slaves are installed in:
/var/www/prepaidgasmeterscoza/htdocs/
/var/www/prepaidutilitymeterscoza/htdocs/
/var/www/prepaidutilitysystemscoza/htdocs/
/var/www/prepaidwatermeterscoza/htdocs/
/var/www/prepaidelectricmeterscoza/htdocs/

Saves respond correctly when called from their URLs

www.prepaidgasmeters.co.za
www.prepaidutilitymeters.co.za
www.prepaidutilitysystems.co.za
www.prepaidwatermeters.co.za
www.prepaidelectricmeters.co.za

When I click www.prepaidgasmeters.co.za/component/user/register.html
We get

Not Found

The requested URL /component/user/register.html was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) Server at www.prepaidgasmeters.co.za Port 80

We have tried to point the site file in various ways but it makes no difference.

Fixed the problem. It was the cache. After I cleared the cache it all works as required. Our original install and configuration was sane.

Side note: For anyone using Ubuntu

The default virtual host configuration file located in /etc/apache2/sites-available/

Sets directive AllowOverride None

If you use default as the start point for new sites then don't forget to set

AllowOverride All
