TOPIC: Creation of first slave site does not work

Creation of first slave site does not work 14 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello JMS2WIN,

My platform is:
- Jumpbox Joomla 1.5.1.1.6
- Running on VMWare ESXi 4 server
- Purchased JMS Multisite 1.2.28

I've installed Multisite and applied all patches and updates OK. My 'Settings' tab inside 'Site Manager' reports the following:

Product ID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Unix Symbolic Links: Allowed
MySQL Version: 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.5 Sharing supported

When I come to create a new site, I give a siteid of 'site1' an example domain name of 'www.site1.com' and leave everything else blank on this page.

It says that it has created my site and is accessible under:

The site 'site1' is deployed.
- You can now map your new domain (www.site1.com) to the directory
'/var/data/joomla15/multisites/site1'.

But when I try to view the site in a browser window, eg. 192.168.254.116/multisites/site1/ I just get a list including a folder called 'cache' and a file called 'config_multisites.php' and nothing else.

Please help?

If you see a list of file and folders including the symbolic links (that you have not mentioned), perhaps this is due to the fact that you have not configured your server to follow the symbolic links.

If you don't have the symbolic links in the directory of your slave stie, then you have to check that you have deployed the slave site in this directory.
You can also check that in the JMS template that you perhaps have used that you have correctly defined Symbolic Link for each folder.

Sorry - please forgive me (I'm new to this)

1. Symbolic Links are saying they are "allowed" so can you tell me how to:
- configure my server to follow symbolic links?
("....that you have not configured your server to follow the symbolic links")

2. Can you tell me how to:
- check that I have deployed the slave site in the directory?
(".... check that you have deployed the slave site in this directory")

3. How do I:
- check that I have correctly defined Symbolic Link for each folder?
(".... that you have correctly defined Symbolic Link for each folder")

1) Contact the administrator of your server.
They are several reason that are environment specifc.
You can use the hello world procedure as desscribed in the tutorial video 7 to check it.

2-3) See the tutorial that show the usage of the "total commander" FTP and see that you have symbolic links created.
You should have as many directories as you have in your master but with link.
Use also SSH linux command like "ls -l" to see the list with "links" defintions.
This is show in the tutorial video 3 to 7.

I strongly suggest that you start to view ALL the video present in the tutorial. Start with the concept and follow them step by step.
