Unless specified, the master site is going to share the same template folder with the slave sites, is it right?

NO.

You have 3 cases.
a) Full copy - see JMS templates, with action = copy
b) Full sharing- see JMS templates, with action = sopecial copy
c) Partial sharing - see JMS templates, with action = sopecial copy + deploy template folder = {deploy_dir}/templates
