TOPIC: Help with SSL

Help with SSL 13 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Edwin - I am having trouble with a site using multisites. We currently
have 14 multisites. They are really not tied together in any way because
we needed separate privileges and modules/components for each site. Here
is my setup:

- MAIN WEBSITE/TEMPLATE
- BASELINE TEMPLATE RUNNING MULTISITES (this is basically a stripped down
version of the multisites so that I have a good starting point when
rolling out additional sites on subdomains)

That baseline template, using multisites, will create a new installation
of the site from which I can propagate with the content. This is being
used for a Health Provider and when they acquire new companies/divisions
we create a "subsite" using multisites.

My problem is this... they have recently decided to start using SSL across
all sites but I can't get it to work. All the subsites are redirecting to
the main website. I found this thread:

www.jms2win.com/en/forum/24-joomla-multi...t=6&start=6#6329

I have gone into one of the subsites and changed all the domains to https
but it is still redirecting to the main site. Any ideas? Can you help
point me in the right direction?

I have attached a screenshot of the setup.

Normally you have to specify https in front of each domain to specify that you want to use SSL.
Perhaps that the information received by JMS is not these one and that you have another domain that is receive. It is generally recommended to use the WWW and without WWW in case where you have the WWW that is added or not.

Also ensure that you recevied a "blue" message when saving the slave site definition.
If you have a "red" message, the slave site could be not correctly saved and therefore identified as a valid slave site. (so ignored).

Edwin, thanks for your response. The problem that I'm having is specifically with subdomains. For instance if I go to:

mysubdomain.parentdomain.com

It will fail and redirect to the parent site (not the correct multisite). However, if I go to:

parentdomain.com/mysubdomain

It works fine. I did receive a confirmation message when altering the configuration. Any other ideas?

So verify that you spelled your subdomain correctly in JMS.
Perhaps that you server add a "www" in front of you subdomain and that you also need to add that in the JMS definition.

Yes, I'm sure that I've spelled everything correctly.

I now have another related problem. I created a new multisite with HTTP and have the site setup. We're now ready to go live and I set all the definitions in JMS to HTTPS. The site redirects to the parent page - just like the others. So I set it back to HTTP in JMS. Now the site is stuck in offline mode - despite me setting it to online in the global configuration and checking it in the configuration.php.

Something screwy is going on here and I really need to get these sites live. We may have no choice but to pay you to look at - if we can get a guaranteed fix.

All I can tell you is that we have customers that are using JMS with website in SSL and that with full success.
I don't know what you did wrong in your environment to have such trouble.

If you are redirected to the master website, this is because the URL received does not match the one that are present in the list of slave site.
It is mandatory that you had saved the slave site definition with success (blue message).
