TOPIC: Joomla 1.5-1.7 upgrade
#9311
Re:Joomla 1.5-1.7 upgrade 12 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

Today I tried to migrate an existing J1.5-Multisite (1 Master, 3 Slaves) to J2.5.1 but failed. I tried following what you mentioned above (install in master first, then in slaves, run jupgrade in slaves..). JUpgrade ran through, but didn't properly migrate the DB-Tables. Either it didn't correctly accept the DB-prefixes I entered or it would clear out already migrated tables of other slaves.

So I have given up for now.

Do you have any futher information on how to migrate step-by-step or maybe another way (without jupgrade?) or can you estimate when such a migration-path would become available?

Thanks a lot and kind regards

-Stephan

The only information that I can give you is the one published by joomla in their website.
They also describe a manual upgrade procedure that does not use the JUpgrade.

One of the element that you have to take in account is the potential problem that you may encounter with JUpgrade when you share tables between websites.
I don't know which error you have encountered.

Yes, I too have been waiting on an outline with the steps to be taken for the upgrade/migration.

We have 15 slave sites on 1.5.25 waiting to upgrade to 2.5.3.

What's the best path for upgrade migration?

We are in April and the JMS still has no migration-path for its clients?

The documentation is the one provided by joomla
docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Migrating_from_...la_1.5_to_Joomla_1.6

docs.joomla.org/Tutorial:Migrating_from_...ually_Migrate_Joomla

You have to proceed with manual upgrade.

When you have progressivelly upgrade until Joomla 1.7.0, you can after that upload the joomla 2.5 that contain a new feature to perform an automatic fix of the DB from J1.7.0 till 2.5.4
See the joomla 2.5.4 - extension manager / database / fix button that you have to apply in each slave site.

We are working on this Joomla procedure to see if we can simplify it but for the moment, this is not the case.

When you have a look in the joomla directory
\installation\sql\mysql
you will find plenty of SQL script that will help you perform the modification of the Joomla 1.5 layout to arrive to the Joomla 1.7 layout.
You have SQL scripts like
diff_15_to_16.sql
joomla_update_16beta2.sql
joomla_update_16beta13.sql
......

Would it be at all possible for you to provide the steps for the upgrade from 1.5 to 1.6/7 for multisites?
i.e. which steps to do to master first and or slave first... I can follow the directions from Joomla's website for the upgrade, but there is an extra level difficulty to ensure that the slaves don't break beyond repair because I lost access to them or broke the master site...

Thanks
