Can master and slave be separated? 13 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
I am new here and don't know Joomla very well, however I do know web development okay.

I have a client who has paid a large some of money to a website developer who has created a slave site using Joomla 1.6 (I think) - my client wishes to move their website to "their own" server.

So the question's are pretty straight forward...

1. Can a slave be seperated from the master site?

2. If so what is the best and most safe process?

Thanks in advance

1) Yes it is possible to convert a slave site into a standlone website.

2) As a slave site share the master website PHP code, you have to start perform a backup of the master that you will restore on the other server.
When done, you will uninstall the JMS patches and uninstall JMS to restore a standalone Joomla that contain the copy of the master. At this moment, you have the Joomla PHP code restored.
After that you have to restore you slave site DB into the new server and change the joomla "configuration.php" to give the new DB connect (or re-use the slave site configuration.php that will replace the standalone "configuration.php".

If you had created specific images and templates folders, you may also have to restore them.

So the idea is to backup the master and restore it on the new server to have the PHP Code.
After that backup slave DB that you restore on the new server.
Change the DB connection and restore specific slave site directories.
