TOPIC: Moving tables
#7009
Moving tables 13 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
I have created a master and slave(master) web site. Hanging underneath the slave(master) are other slaves. The slaves use data from the slave(master) eg users. The slaves are in a different database to that of the slave(master). I need to change this and move the tables of the slaves into the database storing the files of the slave(master).

I have tried coping the tables into the other database and altering the configuration file to point to the different database.

It does not seem to work as the copy (using export via SQL) process is not creating the views in the target database.

Is there a better way to move existing tables and data into another database and preserve the old website's look and feel including its contents without having to rebuild?

Many thanks

If you want to move a website from one DB to the other one, I suggest that you create a temporary fake slave site that will consists in the replication of the existing website into the "fake" slave that will be located in the DB and table prefix that you would like to use for your existing website.

Once you have replicated the website into the expected DB with expected table prefix, edit the existing slave site parameters and change the DB connection with the new location (as you just replicated it).

Once you have the existing website switched with the new DB and new table prefix, you can delete the "fake" slave site. Do not delete the DB - just the files on the disk as the DB is now used by the existing website.
