TOPIC: Don't want to share users
#6945
Don't want to share users 13 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi everybody, just a rapid question.
I have purchased JMS for creating multiple sites but I don't want to share the users.
In other words, I need to create slave sites to be managed by other local administrators, and every administrator must be free to create users visible only to the site in charge.

Apparently there are no options for telling JMS not to share the users.
Is there a way to do it when I create the slave site?

Thanks for your answer.

By default, JMS Multisites never share the content between websites.
You need to do special actions to share extension like sharing the users.
All the tutorial video except the video 16 are creating website with totally independent users.
The video 16 show you how to create a website that share extensions and in particular how to share the users.

So if you don't specify any sharing settings, you will have specific users (the default).

So this is the reverse of your assumption.
By default we do not share any content.
This is the reason why this is not explained.
We only explained how to share.

Hi and thanks for the answer.

What I mean is if it's possible to have several sites with specific users, using a single database. Is to say, to introduce the concept of SITE ID.
As far as I can see, the JMS allows you to create slave sites with specific users but only replicating the whole database.
Is it correct?
If yes it's a pity because having a look to the structure of JSM, it would be easy to introduce the concept of SITE ID.

Thanks again

It is possible to share the users into the same DB but in this case, you have to replicate the website with another table prefix into the same DB.

I suppose this is not what you want.
I suppose you want to share the whole website (same DB with same table prefix).
In this case, NO, you can not have the same website with the same DB and same table prfix that have separated users (as they are using the same table prefix into the same DB).
To have specific users, you need to have specific website (either in the same DB with different table prefix or into different DB).

The concept of the Site ID is not related to the users.
In Joomla, you don't have any information into the users that can group them by site ID.
The Site ID identify a website (DB + table prefix).

I have a similar question:
1 -- I wish to share my articles with another site.
2 -- THEY do not want to share THEIR users with me.

So, if I understand you, this is possible, yes? How is this done?

Yes, with the "Article Sharing for Jms", you can read articles coming from other websites.
It only works on Joomla 1.5.
We are working on the Joomla 1.6 version.
Have a look into the demo to see how it works.
