templates directory question 14 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey Edwin!

Thanks 4 the great work in this component. =)

i have a question...

i need my slave sites to have a templates directory of their own, but i want to have symlinks to the templates of the master site...

i was reading a little about this, and i tried creating a template site, and i put the templates directory to special copy, and when i create a site, based on this template site, i put "{deploy_dir}/templates" in the templates directory textfield, but the folder "templates" it's been copied anyway, with all the templates inside...

how can I manage to get the templates directory created but only symlinks to the master's templates?

thanks in advance

See tutorial video 0.b - slide 34
You have to setup the JMS Template with "partial sharing".
www.jms2win.com/tutorial#jms12x-0b

Go in JMS Templates
- In file/folder, put the "templates" directory action = "special copy".
- In Common, put the template folder = {deploy_dir}/templates

Becarefull that if you already have created the slave site, this will not change the existing "/templates" directory - you have to delete it (or rename it) manually before re-applying the JMS Templates on an existing slave site.

thanks for the reply

unfortunetly it's not working for me, i have created a fresh slave site called tmpl, which is a copy of the master (including templates folder) then i create a template, based on this slave site (tmpl), i configure folder sharing setting the templates folder to special copy, and in common i put {deploy_dir}/templates. (this doesn't change the tmpl site)

then i create a slave site, based on the template i've just created, but it still copies the whole templates directory, doesn't symlink the contents of the folder.

what am i doing wrong?

thank you so much

Which platform are you using ?
Does the symbolic link functionality is OK ?

Which are all the other parameters ?
Did you deploy the slave site into a specific directory and which is the value you have provided ?

I'm on linux platform, symlinks works OK, i have all my slave sites in a sub-folder of the master site

/master_site/sites/tmpl/ => Template site
/master_site/sites/slave1/
/master_site/sites/slave2/

the template site and the slave sites has {deploy_dir}/templates as the template folder

In the template configuration i haven't touch a thing, just configure the template folder to special copy, and in common i put template folder {deploy_dir}/templates

i'm not replicating the master site, im replicating the template site...

don't know what could be the problem...

In the JMS template rule, which template site did you selected ?
Did you choose to replicate the master website or the "site/tmpl" (template) one ?
