TOPIC: Two existing Joomla sites - sharing users

Two existing Joomla sites - sharing users 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,

I have two existing Joomla production sites that I am integrating on a dev environment with JMS. I have installed one site by importing the DB into mysql and copying the file system.

I then installed yhe JMS plugin into this site and now I am trying to figure out what is the best way to install the second site. The first site has a large number of users. The second site has only the admin user.

Could you tell me what is the best strategy for thi setup?
- How should I install the second site? Should I use a template? from the manual I understand that using a template is the only way to share users? But on the other hand I want to share just user, no files or db content.
- Which database setup should I choose (Both sites now use the jos_ prefix, so I am guessing a db-per-site solution would be best?)

Thanks, Ruben

UPDATE: I have tried creating a template and creating a slave site based on that template, but my new slave site gives me just a blank screen. Could you please review the Word document below for me? It describes the steps I took and where I am now.

Your help is much needed and much appreciated.

If you want to have suggestion on the way to organize the website on the disk, I suggest that you have a look in the tutorial video 0.b slide 21-24. This present suggest directory architecture.
www.jms2win.com/tutorial#jms12x-0b

The concept of JMS multisites is to share the files and folder on the disk.
Only the "/images" and "/templates" directory can be specific.

Blank scren let support that you have a PHP syntax error somewhere and this is perhaps related to a problem of permission.
Check if you have a "error_log" file that could give you more information on the reason.

To share the users between website, you have to create a JMS Templates that define the way to create the new website and potential how to share the content of some extension like the users.
See the tutorial video 16 that show how to do that.

Hello Edwin,

It may indeed be a permission issue since I am using two separate databases. I couldn't find any logging though. There was a log file, but that was empty. I'll have another more thorough look when I am back at my office PC monday. Thanks for your suggestions.

Best, R
