TOPIC: Two websites sharing data with different views

Two websites sharing data with different views 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I have read the documentation and started going through videos but am still a little unsure which instructions to follow.

I have created a website that has a public section and a registered members section. They use the same template for design and layout but the menus and content are unique to each section. The reason I did not create two separate websites is because both sites need to share the virtuemart store and Jevents data.

The problem I now have is the members section requires the Jevents display to include additional information and have a different view to that shown in the public section.

I have installed JMS on the site and set up an addon domain. I am just not sure what to do next to achieve 2 sites sharing same database while being able to customise components and what is displayed on each site.

Please could you recommend what sections of the user guide and/or videos to jump to?

If you want to share the VirtueMart and JEvents extension then you have to also share the users.
This means that you have to follow the procedure to share an extension.

As you mentioned "AddOn domain", I suppose that you are using cPanel.
If this is the case, you will have to grant the MySQL user to allow sharing the DB tables.
See tutorial video 0.b slide 34 that show that cPanel all privileges does not put all the privileges and that you have to enable additional privileges with PHPMyAdmin.

Follow the method described in the tutorial video 16

I followed the instructions in tutorial video 16 (a number of times till I got it right) but now I am stuck as to what next. How do I get the master website be represented in the slave sites sharing extenstions.

Some more info:

here is the existing website (which is now the master): www.amie.geek.nz

I created a slave site (which I named public) in multisites www.public.amie.geek.nz which was to look like the master. I browsed and installed Joomla as per instuctions.

Then I created the template. From this I created a slave_1a (which I named members). I browsed and installed Joomla as per instuctions.

I have not missed a single step in video 16 to this point.

However now I get nothing when browsing to www.public.amie.geek.nz or www.members.amie.geek.nz

What do I do next? Is there any particular screenshots I could share with you as I have fully documented and screenshot every single step to match the video instructions.

My goal is to have two sites with their own menu structures and content, but both need to share the virtuemart data, the jEvents & JEVlocations data, community builder and user (and I did select all these in the sharing section of template).

If you have followed the video, the domain name and subdomain would be different as the video present the case of subdirectories.

If you want to share the users with the master, you have to consider that "slave1" does not exists and is your master website.
So you have to modify the "JMS template" to use the "Master" instead of the "Slave1".

Concerning the JEVlocations we never reviewed this extension and therefore can not tell you if this will be possible. Send us this extension in attachement of an email. This may take several days or weeks to analyse this extension and to see if it could be a candidate for the sharing.
