Why should the master site not have data? 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Edwin,

I've spent the last day or so reading the manual, watching the videos, and playing with a local installation of Joomla with Multisite. Everything seems to be working great so far!

I have an existing Joomla website with hundreds of articles that I'd like to use your Article Sharing tool to share with new websites. It seems like my easiest choice would be to make my existing installation the master and the new sites the slaves.

I've read in multiple locations on the forums that you do not recommend using the master website to store the data. You state that the master should be a repository where the extensions are installed.

So, my question is:

What is the reason you recommend keeping the data out of the master site? Is it strictly to maintain a clean separation between the data and the configuration?

Thanks for the great product!

The recommendation to have an "empty" master is that I suggest that you consider the master website as a repository or a library where you install all the extensions required by the slave site.

As you may need to install specific extension for a specific slave site, it is better to just keep the master beside a "portal" or something similar that would not really require the specific extension.
See the tutorial video 0.b (concept) and in particular the slide 21.
This is more related to the security and give the possibility to add security to access this website.
