TOPIC: Using multiple templates
#4088
Using multiple templates 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Edwin,

I am having trouble understanding creating a slave site where I can use a different theme (template) folder to the master template folder.

When I create my template where its says Templates (themes) folder: - I put ' {site_dir}/templates '

The theme still seems stuck on the master template. Why is it not using the images from the local folder url/multisites/slave3/templates/yoo_explorer

When I create template, where it says Template site (*): I am using an existing slave as I dont want to have to create a whole web site from scratch, is this the problem?
But under sharing on the slave I am copying the themes folder instead of symbolic link.

Many thanks for any help

You have 3 cases as explained in the tutorial video 0.b slide 34.
In the JMS templates,
- Use the "special copy" action on the templates directory when you want a full shaing;
- Use the "copy" action on templates directory a full copy
- Use the "special copy" action with the "template folder" = {site_dir}/templates or {deploy_dir}/template.

In your case, I suspect that you have to use the {deploy_dir}/templates if you have specified a specific deploy directory that is not {site_dir}

Hi Edwin,

thank you for your reply.

I have tried setting up the template (from the 'Templates' tab) using either {site_dir}/templates or {deploy_dir}/template with either "special copy" and "copy folder & files".

Both offer the same results. It seems that if I go to subdomain.maindomain.com then I get new template files appear but not when I go to the www.newdomain.com that is associated with it.

Many thanks

If you have a physcial copy and not sharing, this is because the template folder path does not use the same directory than the "deploy folder" one.

Also becarefull that JMS does not update an existing direcrtory. So if you have physically create the directory, you can not replace it with a Symbolic Link
