Transfer from one host to other 14 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi!

I'm changing hosts, and I didn't want to have to reinstall everything and "redo" all my work with my sites in multisites, So I thought of transfering everything from one machine to the other.

I transfered the files, imported the database and created the subdomains, but it didn't work (actually I never thought it would)

but even though I started searching the config files and changing the path's manually, I couldn't get any one of my slave sites to work.

So... I'm asking if there is a way to make this transfer "easier", or, at least, a hint on what configurations I should change to get it to work.

Thanks!

If you have created slave sites with Symbolic Links, it is important to perform a backup that is able to restore the symbolic links.

If you just perform a backup without the symbolic link, when you have restore the master websites, you can go in JMS and resave each slave sites to build the symbolic links.
Perhaps you will have to review the "deploy folder" of each slave site before rebuilding them.

Concerning the DB, if you have shared tables the you can use PHPMyAdmin that is able to backup and restore the views correctly.
Just becarefull if you have created links across DB because in this case, the views should be modified to reflect the new DB names.

So in summary, you should be able to restore the master website that by definition does not need symbolic link and does not contain any MySQL views.
After that when you resave the slave site, you should be able to rebuild the symbolic link if you don't have restore them manually.
You can also try rebuild the slave sites DB with JMS.

Once you have restored the links and rebuilt the DB, you could restore your DB data.

If you want that we help you doing such transfert, we also propose billable support that you can order at www.jms2win.com/download?page=shop.produ...35&category_id=1

Hi, again!

When try to resave my slave sites, they always give me a message that they can't connect to MySQL. So I tried to change the configuration.php of the slave sites to set the new db account, but it didn't work. But the strange part is that after I click save in my slave site, the error message is displayed, but also the db account var at configuration.php is restored to what it was before.

I must be missing something, but I can't find a solution...

Thank you, again!

Just check if you have specified a JMS templates because in this case, this re-apply the rule.
This may copy the "parent" website configuration.php to rebuilt the new configuration.php files.

So check the rules defined in the JMS templates.

The problem is that I can't access even the templates. They also answer me an error connecting to the database.

I access multisites in the admin, and click on "tools" menu. It shows me the list of websites, and when I click any one of them it tells me the error "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL" (except in the master... it works fine)

The problem is that, even if I edit multisites.cfg.php or all the configuration.php files it wont connect.

Also, we're testing this transfer on another domain name... but that doesn't seem to be the problem (til now)

thanks one more time for the help!

Hey...

after all day testing and trying... I got it to work.
It was necessary to "enter and resave" the slave sites in the same hierarchy they were created!

So... sorry for anything... and thanks again for the help.
