I have checked in the JMS settings and it states:

Unix Symbolic Links: Allowed

I have uploaded the hello.php file into my multisites directory and it states:

Symbolic Link is PRESENT

But when I try to create a new slave site from a copy of the master, it tells me that all the folders are "Unable to create the symbolic link." I even watching the tutorial video and read through the tutorials.

My tmp and logs folders are set to 777. What am I missing here?

If the settings says that symbolic link is allowed then the tmp and logs directorys have correct permission.

When you have the error when you deploy the slave site, this may be due to a apaches parameters that restrict the directory where you have permission (ie. open_basedir with a value that give not the permission).
Perhaps you have a problem of permission with the directory itself.
You can try increase the permission with 777 to check it.
Also check the owner and group of files that you are using.
Some environement create the files and fodlers with an "apaches" owner that may be not compatible with the owner of the files that you want to access.
For example check the owner of the "admniistrator" directory and try see the owner of the "multisiotes" directory. If they are not identical and the owner or group is not identical, this may explain the permission issue.

In case of tmp and logs, generally they have 777 permission.

Also check the owner and group of files that you are using.

I checked the administrator folder, multisites folder, all files in the multisites folder, the temp and logs folders --- everything is owned by the root user for the account - they are all the same.

I am so stumped... and I am in a spot. I am supposed to demo this site and functionality after Christmas and have built the entire site on the prospect of using this component. Can you think of anything else that I can try or look for???

Okay, as I said in my other thread - I uninstalled JMS and reinstalled, I got the DB permissions setup correctly, a remade my template, and created my slave site - and VIOLA! IT WORKED!

Now... I am getting the Internal Server Error when I go to the subdomain. If I go to slave.mydomain.com I get a ISE (internal server error), but if I go to www.mydomain.com/slave everything displays properly.

I know you mentioned permission problems in another thread. The permissions for the ./multisites/slave/ folder are set to 777.

I got it straightened out I think. The redirection was wrong for my subdomain. I was testing earlier with a different subdomain and forgot to switch it after the fact.

When you have the 777 present in the directory, sometime the permission error is also due to the "open_basedir" parameter that you can see in the Joomla Help / system info.
This is a apache parameter that restrict the directory where you website has access.
This is also true for you subdomain that may have another open_basedir directory that does not give you the access to the master website directory.

If you have value in the open_basedir, you have to check the differnt path present in this open_basedir and potentially modify its value (if you have the permission to do it).
