i restored one by one the files that are normally patched by JMS. after this i could login to joomla again and after update to v1.2.92 and installing the patches, problems seem to be solved.

"Could not connect to MySQL" mean that you have a wrong MySQL user or password to access your DB. Verify your "configuration.php" file and the DB connection parameters. I suppose that you have patches to re-install because you did an update of joomla. Click on the "install" present in the "check patches" menu to install the patches.
