I am using separate databases for my slave sites. I have set the JMS template parameters to share all of Virtuemart (2) and Kunena. It doesn't appear as if the content is being shared. My suspicion is that this is because they do not share a common database.

Is there some function/component within JMS that facilitates this (maybe using SQL aliases)? ...or does VM+Kunena sharing not work with my master/slave database configuration?

It is possible to share the content of extension between different DBs.
You need to have a MySQL user that has the privileges to access the different DBs.

Both VM2 and Kunena can be shared.
So verify the MySQL user privileges and also the JMS template rule that you used to create the slave site with sharing of VM2 and Kunena.

If you have a problem of MySQL user privileges, in general, you receive a MySQL error message "command denied to user".
