TOPIC: Moving from 1.5 to 1.6
#6818
Moving from 1.5 to 1.6 13 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
First, I apologize if this has been addressed within another thread, I didn't find it with Search.

I am in the process of migrating a site from 1.5 to 1.6
two root folders
two databases
JMS installed on 1.5 version

I would like to complete the following:
Slave the 1.6 site
Sync CB 1.4 Users
Change Master to 1.6 site
Share CB 1.4 Users with several (4 at present) other extant sites which are separate host env, db, etc.

First, is this all possible?
Second, where can I reference (esp the changing of the Master)?

Thank you,
psydefx

JMS Multisites is compatible with Joomla 1.5 and 1.6.
Just ensure that you have a recent JMS Multisite version.

CB 1.4 can effectivelly be shared in Joomla 1.6.

So if you have a tool that correctly migrate your existing Joomla 1.5 to 1.6, it should work. At our knowledge there is no migration tool that is working correctly.

If the migration tool does not work, you can rebuild a website with Joomla 1.6 and sharing the CB 1.4 users.

I remember you that the concept of JMS Multisites is based on the sharing and not on the synchronisation that suppose that you duplicate the data.
With the sharing the data is present only once and is not duplicated.

Ok, going to try CB Juice to sync users.

If multi-sites doesn't sync, how do you place users in separate groups on different sites? Is that possible?

Thanks.

We do not synchronize the users as we share it.
The MAJOR difference between synchronization and that sharing is that the synchronization suppose that you duplicate the data that need to be synchronized.
With the sharing the information is present only once and is not replicated.

So we do not place user in separated group in each website as they are shared, they are in the same group.
The fact that you want to have different information in different website mean that you need to replicate it and that you are searching for an intelligent system that is able to synchronize different information depending on the website.
