TOPIC: Multiple sites, users sharing and different roles

Multiple sites, users sharing and different roles 15 Years ago Karma: 0
Hi all,

I got a problem with a JMS installation with user sharing between all sites. I need to assign Admin roles to one user, so that are valid only for a slave site, and not for all. I know that this is an ACL issue, but maybe there is a workaround to avoid that an Admin acts as admin on all sites..

thanks

As this is documented in the product detail and repeated several times also in the forum, when you share an extension between website, you share all the records to all the websites.

This means that if you decide to share the user between several website then the Super Administrator is able to administrate ALL the websites where the users are shared.

JMS does NOT perform any ACL processing.
The sharing is perform at MySQL level and in any cases JMS modify whatever in the joomla PHP code to proceed with the sharing.

Some customers have tried some solutions but till now without any success.
We think analyze a solution with future Joomla 1.6.
We will analyze in detail their new ACL processing to see if we could extend it with multisites processing (not guarantee - just an idea that we expect analyze).
Nothing expected before Q1 2010 (perhaps end Q1)

All we can tell you is that NoixACL and page-and-items are copatibles with JMS.
Perhaps there are other extension that perhaps would help you with ACL.

I would like to know if your solution will allow a user to sign in the Master site and simultaneously sign into the slave sites... with the one login form on the master site.. When the user clicks on amenu link to the slave site .. they will aready be logged in..
Does your solution provide for this?

In JMS 1.1.x, the answer is NO.
In JMS 1.2.x, the answer is YES with some limitation described in the product detail.

The single sign-in only work on the same domain.
This mean that you can have slave site in a subdomain or a subdirectory.

The single sign-in require that you share the users between the website.
See the tutorial video 16 that show how to share the user and extensions.
www.jms2win.com/tutorial#jms12x-16

The extension sharing require that you are using MySQL 5.0 or higher and that you have the MySQL user privileges to share the MySQL tables.
