Is this correct??? 15 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
“What I would like to do”

Main site = www.master.com

I have two domains that are running on the web now.
Lets say they are, www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com.

On my main Joomla installation on www.master.com, I wanted to have the users go to the URL www.domain1.com and hit www.master.com and then the multisite will kick in for www.domain1.com.

Question: I have called my hosting provider and asked to have www.domain1.com’s DNS to point to www.master.com. Is this correct?

I have been able to create a sub domain on my server called “domian1” and have it point to the root level, granted that when I did this, it had moved in an index.html file which in turn took over my index.php file as the default starting page for www.master.com.
By deleting the index.html file of course all is now normal.

Question: The hosting provider is asking if I want to “park” the domain. So that I end up with www.domain1.master.com. Is this correct?

Question: When users go to www.domain1.com, will they get to www.domain1.master.com?

I don't really understand your question.

If your domain1.com is hosted on another server than master.com, yes you have to change the DNS setting to give the new server name.

You use the word "park" the domain, I suppose you are using CPanel.
If this is the case, see the FAQ CPanel /faq#sec-58 that give you some example coming from other customer.
They have used "AddOn domain" and not "park domain".

Ok

Let me try to explain:"

Can I have www.master.com, my main Joomla site with multisite installed.

Them when someione types:

www.anything.com

does "anything.com" meed to be an "alias" or a "sub domain"?

in order for that person to hit www.master.com and then multisites directs them to the actual area for " anything.com "

My under standing is that:

Sub Domain = sub_domain.domain.com

Sub-directories = www.domain.com/sub_directory

Alias = www.slave1.com and multisites will handle the redirection????

By definition, www.anything.com can not be a sub-domain of www.master.com but only an alias.

Your definition of sub domain and sub-directory, later in your text is correct.

You can not use hosting server redirection because this change the URL and JMS will not be able to recognize the original URL
