Links to PDF files in articles 14 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,

JMS2WIN Version 1.1.17
Joomla 1.5.9

Path to slave sites is:

/hosting/content/MASTERSITE/html/multisites/SLAVESITE

Path to images on slavesite is

/hosting/content/MASTERSITE/html/multisites/SLAVESITE/images

Setting in multisites "New images folder" is {rel_site_dir}/images.

uploaded file mypicture.jpg to the /images folder in the slave site.

Question:

What is the correct URL to the image mypicture.jpg when linking to it in an article on the slave site?

I want the words "My Picture" in the article to bring up mypicture.jpg in a new window when clicked.

The correct path depends on the "root" directory of your domain and how you write the path (in absolute or relative).
When you use an absolute URL like <img src="/images...." (with a slash in front), the location depends on your domain root directory.
When using the relative path like <img src="images...." WITHOUT the slash, this relative to current path of your website. In your case, if you are using the relative path and that you are in the sub-site directory, this will give you the access to the image present in the SLAVESITE.

As I don't know the hosting configuration and the domain(s) with their document root ( path), this depends.
If this is a single domain with several website in sub-directory, perhaps you should have to use a relative path or the absolute path with a full {rel_site_dir}/images path.

Edwin,

Let me ask this question another way.

When I set up a slave site, I want it to have it's own, separate images folder. /images

The Master site directory is /hosting/content/xxxx/html and the URL www.mastersite.com points at this folder.

and slave sites are under
/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1
/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave2
/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave3 etc....

and slave sites point at these folders.

What do I enter in the "New media folder" and "New images folder" in the "Site Details[edit] screen if I want each slave site to have it's own /images folder?

/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1/images

I tried {rel_site_dir}/images, but that seems to replicate the master sites images folder.

And then finally, what would the url to an image be if it was uploaded to

/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1/images/mypicture.jpg ?

When you have defined the "image folder" in JMS, this is normal that it start to replicate the master sites images folder because you need to start at least with the standard joomla images.

Concerning the URL, I repeat all depends if you are using an absolute or relative path.
This is a standard HTML and URL writting.

When you write "images", this is relative to the current path.
When you write "/images" this is an absolute path that start for the root to the domain.
So all depends on your current path.
Imagine that you are in current domain "www.mastersite.com/multisites/slave1/index.php" then when you are using the relative "image", this will search in the directory /hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1/images.
If in contrary, you are using "/images", this will be interpreted like www.mastersite.com/images that correspond on your disk to /hosting/content/xxxx/html/images

So all depends the context and where you want to use the URL

So all depends the context and where you want to use the URL

When I am in the article editor in the slave1 site, and want to insert an image into the article, I click the "image" button at the bottom of the text area.

The image does not yet exist on the server, so I upload an image there, but it does NOT go to

/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1/images (this is where I want it to go)

It goes to

/hosting/content/xxxx/html/images (all images from all slave sites are going here. This is wrong)

EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: EDIT:

OK. I have this working now. Images ARE going where they belong.

/hosting/content/xxxx/html/multisites/slave1/images/mypicture.jpg

So, when I create some text in an article in the slave1 site that I want the reader to click, and the picture mypicture.jpg will pop up, when I click on the create link icon in the article editor, what goes in the URL field?

I have tried:

www.slavesite1.com/images/mypicture.jpg
www.slavesite1.com/multisites/slave1/images/mypicture.jpg
images/mypicture.jpg
/images/mypicture.jpg

The only thing that works is:

www.MASTERSITE.com/multisites/slave1/images/mypicture.jpg

Is this the only way? I really don't want the mastersite url to show.

Mike,

perhaps the video I have just created would help you.
It shows how to create a slave site with specific images, media and templates folders
See tutorial step 22
www.jms2win.com/tutorial
or directly the video at tutorial.jms2win.info/joomla/multisite-1...ges-media/index.html
