Going from Domain Name to Host Temp URL 12 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 1
Hi Edwin,

My master site was under 311addieroy.com

The client let that name expire and now I have to access the site using the hosting temp url such as:

fairmont.websitewelcome.com/~username

or

my.ip.address/~username

However, when going to these /administrator I get the Joomla login page but it doesnt allow me to login. What do I have to do?

If you want to add a temporary or alterante domain name associated to the slave site, you can login in the master website and edit the slave site definition to add the temporary URL.

If you don't arrive to login in the slave site, this perhaps mean that the slave site share the users between websites.
In this case, put the temporary URL as the first line of the "domain name" field present in the slave site definition.

If the website is runing under Joomla 1.7, open the "configuration.php" files of the slave site and check if it has a "cookie domain" value. If there is a value that corresond to the "expired domain", replace it with the new fairmont.websitewelcome.com

Hi Edwin,

I don't think you understood the problem. It's not a slave site. This is the MASTER site. The one that I control JMS with.

If you don't arrive to access your master website from another domain or URL, this probably mean that this master has the users shared with other websites.

The solution depends on the Joomla version.
If you are using Joomla 1.5, edit the "/multisites/config_multisites.php" file and at the begining, you should have a
if( !defined( 'MULTISITES_MASTER_COOKIE_DOMAINS' )) {
define( 'MULTISITES_MASTER_COOKIE_DOMAINS', '.yourdomain.com');
}

Remove those line or put them in comment.

On Joomla 1.7, you probably setup the "cookie_domain" parameter in the configuration.php
In this case, you have to edit the "configuration.php" and set cookie_domain = ''

When a cookie domain is defined, only this domain can login the website.

Ah thanks. That should be the answer then. I am sharing users from that domain.
