First of all, thanks for this great piece of software.

Unfortunately I just noticed some strange behaviour of the JCE - Image Manager Extended 1.5.5 plugin. Browsing the image folder it seems to me that this tool actually browses the image folder of my MASTER always, even though I am using it on a SLAVE.

For displaying the images it seems to use just relative links. Of course I do not have the same images on my SLAVE as on my MASTER so basically things are not working due to this behavior.

Please provide a fix for this issue. When you browse the image folder the JCE - Image Manager Extended 1.5.5 should display the correct image folder. This means that on the SLAVE it should browse the image folder of the SLAVE and on the MASTER it should browse the image folder of the MASTER.

I am ready for an upgrade B)

You can always get the latest version in your version.
The procedure is explained in the FAQ
http://www.jms2win.com/faq#sec-122

So if you have JMS 1.1.x and want to have the JMS 1.2.x, you have to buy the new one.
If you have JMS 1.2.x, you can get the latest 1.2.x version then see the FAQ.

On Linux and cPanel see tutorail video CP-04

This is environment specific and related to your hosting provider environment.
The only think that JMS Multisites provide you is the possibility to use the Symbolic Link when your hosting provider required to have the subdomain located into a speciifc directory.
Becarefull that on Windows platform, the Symbolic Link is not allowed.

YES JMS Multisites hack the core Joomla.
In does not replace the existing Joomla original files but proceed with modifcation inside the current sources. That mean that when Joomla proceed with bug fixes, you can re-apply the patches and benefit of the Joomla fixes.

For your information, we still have customer who are using JMS 1.0.x with latest Joomla 1.5.20 event the fact that JMS 1.0.x is no more update from almost 2 years.

The objective is to always keep the latest code of the original joomla (or extension) and to apply inside the latest code the modification to allow JMS Multisites do its stuff.

You have a user manual and tutorial that described JMS Multisites.
This is not in the scope of JMS Multisites to provide user manual for all the HTTP Server administration tool that should be provided by your hosting company.
We can not know all the possible hosting company administration tools and user interface to setup correctly your domain and subdomain.

So as soon as you want to setup a domain or a subdomain you have to refer to the documentation provided by your hosting provder and their admin tool.

The only case that we can document is the one that use subdirectories as this assume that you already have a domain or subdomain correctly configured.

We just have illustrated one case concerning cPanel that is a very popular administration tool.

In apache, the httpd.conf is generally located in /etc/http??? and perhaps subdirectory conf or config (something like that).

Depending on the HTTP Server admin tool, (cPanel, Plesk, Direct Admin, ...), you may also have configuration located in other places.
This is environment specific.

There is no "Multsites event module".
If you want to display "shared" event from a module, you have to share the "event" and as the "event" require the users, you also have to share the users.

If you want that we develop a specific "Multsites Event Module" that do what you want, this is only possible with our billable support that can be ordered at

Do you have specific extension to check the security and that could take the hand before joomla.
Some extra extension adds control on the domain or IP address that try to login a website.

Sometimes this is additional plugins that fails during the login and does not allow to login.

Perhaps you could also have a look if you have a "error_log" file in the administrator directory that could give you additional info.

I don't think this is a problem of english.
I think you have deleted a directory that was a root directory in which you have put aother subdirectory of other slave.

If for example you defined
slave1 in directrory /home/myaccount/slave1
sub1 in directory /home/myaccount/slave1/sub1

then if you delete slave1, this delete the directory /home/myaccount/slave1 including all the subdirectories.

This is not a problem of documentation.

On any system, when you delete something, you have to read carefully and cross-check that you don't delete unexpected thing.

If you had read the message displayed by JMS Multsiites, it is written something like

The site 'XXXX' will be deleted.
This means that all the content of directory 'YYYYYYYYYYY' will be deleted.
If you have added files in this directory and you want keep them, please cancel.
Press the delete button to confirm and proceed with the deletion.

Your question is not clear.

JMS does not do anything in the DB.
So I don't see the relationship with a propagation into all the slave sites.

If your question is why a supposed "slave site" display the master website, this is because the domain name is not present in any list of slave sites defined in JMS Multisites "manage" menu.
So check that you have spelled the domain correctly.
Somethimes, this is because your don't have defined the domain with and without WWW.

When you have provided different site name for each website, you can try to use the ..../administrator URL to check that the site name is correct.

What do you mean by registration page.
Do you mean the mod_login module or specific extensin login like virtuemart login or other extensino login.
If this is a template specific login form, you can also create a specific templates directory.

So all depends the specific extension that you are using for the registration page and what it uses for its rendering.

This is not planned at short terms as this is something outside of JMS Multisites.

The HTTP Server only allow to share the sessions ID for a specific domain.

As the HTTP server does not allow to get the same session ID from different domain, that mean that something different must be managed outside the HTTP Server to share the sessions ID between domains.
As you could read on the web, such sessions ID cross-domain can be performed by a specific development that mays consists in adding the session ID in each URL of the pages or use cookies to store sessions information. Such development may present a risk in term of security as this may open a door for an exploit to try manage the session IDs.

As explained in the tutorial video CP-05, most of the templates or extensions does not use the Global Configuration "media settings" and the JPATH_THEMES defined present in Joomla. In general, they hardcode /images and /templates.
When this is the case, that means that you must have website that keep this directory structure and you can not modify the path.

That mean that you must configure your doman or subdomain in your HTTP Server to have specific root document directory.
In this case, you have to put in JMS the deploy directory = to the specific root document directory that you have specified in your HTTP Server.
If you want that the slave site be able to have a specific (themes) /templates directory where it can install additional templates then see tutorial video 0.b slide 34
action = special copy
Themes folder = /templates.

As each domain or subdomain have not a speciifc directory, you can just use in JMS template images folder action = copy

No.
This mean that you have to login in the slave site and re-install ProjectFork in the slave.
The possibilty to install it from the JMS Tools will be possible when the definition will be added in the patches 1.2.42.

You have 3 methods to have an extension present in a slave.
1) Re-install the extension in the slave (the solution proopose).
2) Use JMS Tools when the extension is defined in the tool (not yet - will be included in 1.2.42)
3) Replicate a website that already contain the extension.

You have the possibility to create website from the front-end.
Once you have prepared the rule in a JMS Templates, you can use it several times to create the website.

There is no "batch script" available.
If you want to create a huge number of slave site (several hundreds or thousand of slave site) in a very short time, we have an internal component that allow import a tabulated file to build the websites described in the tabulated file. This is not a product because we know that there are bugs due to timeout of the servers. So you have to run it several time.
Perhaps we will do a product in the future.

It is not easy.
The idea is to ensure that all the extensions required by the slave site that you want to import as slave site are correctly installed.
When all the PHP code is present in the master (extensions installed) then you can create a fake slave site where you will re-use the "configuration.php" to replace with your current DB connection.

So the idea is to put the PHP code in the master by the install of the extension
and re-use the existing website to move configuration.php file DB connection to provide the new DB parameter to the slave site.

You will also have to check that you don't have images or specific directory where files or folders must be moved into the new slave site directory structure.

If you want that we help you doing that on your server, we also have billable support that can be ordered at

Create your new domain from the (mt) AccountCenter to add to DNS and create the site directory
Create your new domain from the MultiSites site manager[ul]
[li]In the deployed directory field, include the entire path to your new HTML folder, like fs/c##/h##/mnt/#####/domains ewdomain.com/html (if you use a template to set this up you don't have to re-do it every time.)
Set your media directory to /images
Set your images directory to /images/stories
Set your templates directory to /templates
Don't forget to set a new DB table prefix
[/li][/ul]
Save the site and you're in business.

I am a user of your Multi Sites 1.1.24.
I have been bothered by a problem for a long time and can not resolve it by myself after many trial and error.

The problem is " my Joomla JCE editor (with image manager) become unable to resize image during uploading in the slave site, which is quite normal in the master site"

After a few trial, i found the problem is related to the image directory.
If i create a separate image directory in the slave site for uploading, the resize function is ok.
If i use a directory that is actually mirror to the master site, the function failed.
But, i want to store the all images of all sites to the same folder, so i prefer to use the virtual directory, which is actual in the master site.

Can you find the method for me to resolve it ?

My master site:
http://www.twlizard.com/edgar
the image directory for uploading is http://www.twlizard.com/edgar/gallery/edgar (no problem for resizing in master site here)

My slave site:
http://www.twlizard.com/edgar/multisites/081
the image directory for uploading is http://www.twlizard.com/edgar/multisites/081/gallery/081 (but the folder "gallery" is actually is the same directory as the master site image directory)

As explained in the tutorial video slide 34, if you select "specific copy" for the template, this create a Symbolic Link to the "/templates" directory.

In your explaination, it is inconsistent to say that the /templates directory is a link to the master and just after you say that you have to create a link manually.
If the link already exists, how do you create a new one at the same place manually ?

If you create a slave site slave1 into a directory
/multisites/slave1 then
/multisites/slave1/templates must be a link to /templates and is created automatically by JMS when you use the "special copy" action and the template folder is empty.

Perhaps you should review the tutorial vdeo CP-05 that explain how to have a specific /templates directory. This will help you do the reverse to keep the directory shared.L

The concept of the article sharing is not to redirect the user to the original website but display the shared article in the current website. If you replace the URL by an absolute path, this will redirect the user to another website.

Perhaps this is a feature that I will add in a future version of the "Articles Sharing for JMS"

Merci Edwin,

Check also if you have a "error_log" file that perhaps give you more information on the reason.

Hello,

Thanks again. Please find the follow-up to your explanations (your explanations are marked in red)

1) This clarify the way you have setup your cPanel.

I have different templates on the master and slave sites and the module structures are very different on each site, the websites are presented as they are to, I am sure I am connecting to the right databases.

2) If you have created specific 'non shared" slave site

I checked using JMS Tools (which is indeed a cool set of tools), and the core, user and session tables are shared.

3) I suspect that you are not connected on the appropriate DB

I understand this, I had faced this problem earlier when I created the slave sites without the www in the website address, then I was always connecting to the master website database. I would change the template in the slave, but it would change the template on the master, I got the solution to this problem in the forum and started using www.address.com and it started working fine.

4) When you share the Hot Property, this also share the users.

Yes I checked in the Multisite tools, the user tables are shared.

To also test the session problem I used to get earlier when I shared the users table, I created a new domain http://www.dakshkarma.com , I copied the template to a new one and shared the users table and the hot properties table.

There after I created a new slave site using this template.

Previously when I would do this then on the frontend the homepage would not login and just refresh, same with the backend.

But today the refresh happened ones in the frontend and ones in the backend, and there after IT STARTED WORKING FINE.

I am not exactly sure why this happened, I THINK that when I was trying multiple things to fix the problem, I did not have the patch on the application.php appied and thought the sharing of the users table created the problem.

As I said before, I say once again "Great Component".

Thanks, Best Wishes,
Santosh

I don't think that the MySQL bug is still applicable.
This is a very old one for MySQL alpha version in 2005.
Now you say that you are using a MySQL 5.0.91 and no more the alpha version.

So I suggest that you ask your hosting provider to modify the MySQL
privileges.
See for example present in the tutorial video 0.b - slide 35
http://www.jms2win.com/tutorial#jms12x-0b

I hope this will help your hosting provider give you the correct privileges.

Oh, yes, I found a file "error.php" in the joomla/logs directory. Sorry. But there were no errors logged about this problem. The last entry was two years ago.

So could there be another reason for blank pages than a PHP syntax error?

Your answer is very strange.
You start to say sorry and after you repeat that you don't want upgrade from 1.3.x to 1.5.x.

Sorry but I don't know Joomla 1.3.x and I don't know if it would be compatible.
As you have JMS 1.1.x and Joomla 1.3.x then I suggest you that you do the test yourself to reply to your question.

If I read your correctly, you have performed the test and it seems it fails.
If you want that we develop a JMS for the older Joomla 1.3.x, this is possible with our billable support but this might be expensive if the Joomla 1.3.x and 1.5.x are very different.

IN JMS, there is a test to try using the Symbolic Link and if it fails, it says forbidden.
To test, JMS use the tmp and logs directories setup in your Global configuration.
Normally the tmp and logs directory should have the permission except if you provide path outside of your website or "null" directory.

Of course if the "symlink" function is disabled from your http server, this mean that its call will fail and may explain why a terminal SSH is able to create a link but not a PHP script.

You can test the Symbolic Link with "hello world" procedure as described in the tutorial video 7.
It does not require JMS to test the Symbolic Links

Hi,

I have a "pilot" site from which users can create their own sites from the front-end. I would like create some jms templates taking for models some other existing already sites. Please understand that the “pilot” site is not the master. Masters could be any other existing sites and already installed...

Considering this, what is the best way method to create the templates ?

Thanks,
Eric.
